Childs Play Parson Russell Terriers is located in the historic state of Virginia, right down the road from one of the pivotal battles of the taking of Petersburg, Five Forks and Sutherland Station, during the War between the States. While living in this area, one can feel the history and need for remembrance of that history. Our terriers are evaluated for soundness of mind and body. We carefully select only the best to breed, with each breeding planned a year or more in advance. We only have a few litters a year and only from the terriers that have proven themselves in the conformation ring and the hunt field. Our terriers live with us in the house and are given lots of love and affection. They are born in our bedroom and grow up in the house amidst all the noise of a family. All of our terriers, whether they reach the show ring or become another family's beloved companion, have ample opportunity for socialization. We wholeheartedly support and believe in the genetic testing and health screening of all terriers. All of our terriers are BAER tested by the time they are 8 weeks old and are annually CERF tested. Genetic testing and health screening is vital to ensure that hearing and eye defects are not passed on in the gene pool. We are proud and active members in the Parson Russell Terrier Association of America, the AKC-recognized parent club of the Parson Russell Terrier. We wholeheartedly support the recognition of the Parson Russell Terrier by the American Kennel Club and believe that the Parson Russell can be both a dog that shows and a dog that hunts in the field as it was bred to do. In keeping with the terriers history, we breed only the type of terrier that we believe the Parson John Russell himself would have wanted in his kennels, which is a terrier that is sound of mind and body and is suited and willing to work in the earth against live quarry. In order to do this, we must look back and study the beginnings of what we today recognize as the Jack Russell Terrier. We hope that if the sporting Parson, The Reverand John Russell himself, was to cast his eye on our terriers, he would nod his head in approval and say something such as, "Carry on!" |
